Construction Technician Trainee - Southwestern Virginia Gas Company

Performs general construction and maintenance duties under the direction of a Lead Construction Technician or Supervisor, or when not available a Construction Technician II. Development of meter reading skills is essential at this level. Performs maintenance work needed on meters, as well as performs maintenance on vehicles, grounds, and buildings. All essential functions are to be completed in a timely manner with limited supervision and within delegated authority.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and must have an excellent driving record, commercial driver’s license preferred. Must be physically capable of climbing into and out of trucks continuously and carrying very heavy pipe long distances repeatedly throughout the day. Must have the physical strength to load and unload heavy pieces of equipment and supplies to and from trucks and/or trailers. Must be capable of digging ditches with pick and shovel and/or ditch witch. Must be mechanically inclined with the manual dexterity and have the ability to work with hands while in cramped or awkward positions. Must be able to work in all types of weather year-round.
